Drawn to Fashion

  • By Kelsey Daul
We had the pleasure of meeting the one and only Mary Mitchell, a well known and highly respected fashion illustrator. Mary started her career as a fashion illustrator after graduating from Albright Art School in Buffalo, New York. She has had the opportunity to sketch for many large retailers and clothing stores.
Mary's illustrations have been noticed by famous designers and editors around the world. She even had the opportunity to speak with Oscar de la Renta, who went on to write the forward for her book, Drawn to Fashion. This amazing book gives a look into her life as a fashion illustrator for the past 3 decades. The sketches in this book are one of a kind and show her true talent as an illustrator.
In January of 2012, the Omaha Durham Museum honored Mary and her book with the Drawn to Fashion exhibit that ran for 4 months. The proceeds for her book go to the Mary Mitchell Fashion Illustration Fund at the Textile, Clothing and Design department at University of Nebraska Lincoln.
